Big Brother house ‘could be demolished’

Big Brother could be forced to find a new house to lock its contestants in as a planning permission dispute threatens to see the current building demolished.

The long running Five reality series – and companion, Celebrity Big Brother – is currently filmed in a purpose built house on the lot of Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

The show has been filmed there since 2002, but now everyone could be getting evicted due to a planning permission dispute.

Show bosses had been hoping to secure the location through to 2019 as part of a deal, but the application has not been successful, according to the Daily Star.

The local Hertsmere Council has reportedly rejected the latest application to request permission to house the show at Elstree.

The paper reports that two separate plans had been shot down by the council.

One application had requested permission to "allow for the Big Brother Building and acoustic and visual screening to remain in place until 30th Sep 2019."

While the second sought permission to "allow additional television production set, television studio, external area and acoustic and visual fence to NE corner of compound to remain in place until 30 Sep 2019."

Both were rejected as "unsuitable".

Now show bosses will be scrambling to get permission renewed before the current deal expires.

A show source told the Daily Star: "The plans have been retuned to the applicant. They have been rejected, it wasn't suitable."

When Big Brother first launched in 2000 back on Channel 4, the original house was located in Bow, London.

The show filmed the first two series there before moving to Elstree in 2002 in time for series 3.

A spokesperson for the show refused to comment on reports the current house could be demolished.
