Georgia Grabs Gold for Wales

Georgia Davies

Second gold medal for Welsh swimmers at Glasgow 2014

After 40 years without a gold medal in the pool, Wales were celebrating again last night when Georgia Davies took our second gold, this time in the 50m backstroke.

The 23-year-old from Swansea broke the British record in a time of 27.56 seconds.

Her win came after Swansea's Jazz Carlin won silver for Wales in the 400m freestyle last night to add to her gold in the 800m freestyle.

Davies said: "I'm just so happy.

"It hasn't sunk in yet, I've been swimming since I was really young.

"Training early in the morning before school and having to give up a lot and sacrifice things, but it's all worth it when you get that result."
